Memory House is a digital archive that collects, preserves, and shares family stories, elder wisdom, community history, and place-based memories. By using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Using Memory House

You may browse the public archive, read stories, view the map, and scan QR installations freely. You may not:

• Use the site for any unlawful purpose.
• Attempt to access private or unlisted stories without authorization.
• Copy, scrape, or redistribute archive content for commercial purposes without permission.
• Submit false, misleading, or harmful content.
• Use the site to harass, defame, or misrepresent any individual.

Story Submissions

When you submit a story, photograph, audio recording, video, or other content to Memory House, you confirm that:

• You own or have permission to share the content, including all photos, recordings, and written material.
• You have obtained consent from the story subject and any other identifiable individuals. If the subject is deceased or unable to consent, you have obtained consent from their family or legal representative.
• The content is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
• You grant Memory House a non-exclusive license to display, reproduce, and archive the content on this website and in associated QR installations, for the purpose of preserving and sharing the story.
• You understand that stories set to "public" visibility may be indexed by search engines and shared by site visitors.

You retain ownership of your content. Memory House does not claim copyright over submitted stories or media.

Content Standards

Submitted content must not:

• Contain false, defamatory, or misleading information.
• Violate the privacy or confidentiality of any individual.
• Include sensitive personal information such as home addresses, financial details, or health records.
• Contain hate speech, discrimination, or content that encourages harm.
• Infringe on the intellectual property rights of others.

Memory House reserves the right to reject, edit, or remove any content that does not meet these standards.

Content Moderation

All submissions are reviewed by Memory House before being published. We may:

• Approve, request more information, or decline a submission.
• Edit submissions for clarity, length, or accuracy (in consultation with the submitter where possible).
• Change a story's visibility or privacy level if concerns are raised.
• Remove content that violates these terms or that is the subject of a valid removal request.

If you believe a story contains inaccurate information or should be removed, please use our correction and removal form.

QR Installations

Memory House places QR codes at physical locations including benches, landmarks, memorial sites, and heritage buildings. These installations are intended for public engagement and education. Visitors may scan QR codes freely. The physical installations themselves remain the property of the site owner (e.g., a municipality or park authority); the digital content linked to the QR code is managed by Memory House.

Donations

Memory House is a mission-driven organization currently operating without registered charitable status. Donations are processed through Stripe and are not tax-deductible. By making a donation, you acknowledge that you are making a voluntary contribution to support the archive's mission. For large gifts or sponsorship inquiries, please contact us.

Intellectual Property

The Memory House website design, branding, and original content are © Memory House. Individual stories and media remain the property of their respective creators, who grant Memory House a license to display them as described above. Partner organizations retain their own logos and branding.

Disclaimers

The archive contains personal stories submitted by individuals. Memory House does not verify the factual accuracy of every story and is not responsible for the content of user-submitted material. Stories reflect the personal recollections and perspectives of their authors. We review content for appropriateness but cannot guarantee completeness or accuracy.

Limitation of Liability

Memory House is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from the use of this website or the content within it. We are not responsible for the content of external websites linked from the archive.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
